Official Story: Roadkill is a "tip-of-the-hat"
to the only pet cat I had. The name should give away the cat's ultimate
demise. Can't recall how old I was at the time but it must've been
around ten-or-so. So even though, in life the cat was called "Tom",
now in death I've characterised him as "Roadkill". Roadkill
is a ,cantankerous, mesogenistic, argumentative blow-smoke-in-your-face
kind of arsehole. But he draws nekkid girlies so he can't be all
bad, right?
As an individual, death is a BIG full stop waiting to happen at
some point in my life. I don't believe in an afterlife but like
a million bucks, I wouldn't turn it down if it was offered to me!
As such, I was keen to use a "disposable" character who
could reflect this die-at-any-moment idiosyncrasy given the temporary
nature of artistic projects and humans in general.
Roadkill is on "borrowed" time. Something that relates
directly to me as art is a hobby of mine, in real-life I have a
non-connected job and a family life. Drawing is time spent outside
the "real" and squarely in the "fantasy".
Roadkill's time here is not because of his debating or communicative
abilities or the lack of them, in fact! No, he's here because he
draws and inks.
Long live Roadkill?
